Players

The Players module: start gold, and a name, colour and team for each of the twelve players, and, beside each team number, "on its own" until another player joins that team.
The Players module

The Players module (Ctrl 5) is a single page with no 3D view. At the top is a Start gold field and a Reset button. Below them are twelve rows, one per player.

A player's row

Part What it does
Number Player 1 to 12. Placed objects refer to this number.
Colour square Click it to open the twelve classic colours, then click one. Click the square again to close the list.
Name field The player's name, up to 24 characters. An empty name goes back to Player n.
Team The arrows step the team number from 1 to 12. To the right of the number you see the colours of the other players on the same team, or on its own.

The twelve colours are Red, Blue, Teal, Purple, Yellow, Orange, Green, Pink, Gray, Light blue, Dark green and Brown. Two players can share a colour if you want that.

Teams

Players with the same team number are allies, and allies never fight each other. By default every player is on a team of their own, so everyone fights everyone. Give players 1 and 2 the same team number, and they are on one side.

Neutral owners are separate from the twelve. Neutral passive units do not attack. Neutral hostile units attack players.

Start gold

Start gold is what every player begins with. It is 500 by default and can go up to 1,000,000. There is no income in the game yet, so what players start with is all they have.

Reset

Reset puts everything back to the usual: Player 1 to Player 12, each with its own colour and its own team, and 500 gold. It is greyed out while the settings are already usual.

Where it shows up

  • The Objects module and the 3D view draw each owner's objects in that owner's colour.
  • The engine's Players page starts from this list. Whoever plays can still change teams there.
  • The simulation uses the teams to decide who fights whom.

The settings are saved in map.toml under [players], and left out of the file while they are the usual ones. Changes are saved with the same autosave as everything else. They are not part of the undo history.

Players, teams and owners shows how this works in a game.

Not built yet

Computer players, races and start locations. I would also like teams to be visible groups you drag players between, instead of a number on each row. That is planned.
