Global chat
Besides the chat inside a match (see Chat and commands), the online service runs one global chat that every connected player can read and write. You write in the game; the website shows a read-only copy on the Chat log page.
Who is who
- A signed-in player appears as
Name#Tag, their W4 ID. - A player without an account is a guest. Guests can chat, but their name carries the tag
(local)to show that nobody vouches for it, and the web page shows their lines in grey. - The page also shows how many people are in the chat right now (the N online badge).
The chat log page
- The newest 50 messages are shown, newest at the bottom. Load older goes further back, 50 at a time, until the start of the chat. Refresh fetches what was written since.
- Times are shown in your own time zone.
- Download a day's log gives a plain text file with every message of one day (a day of your time zone).
- Posting is not possible on the web. To write, get the game and open its chat.
What is kept, and limits
- Messages are kept forever; nothing is deleted when the chat is quiet.
- A message is plain text. Whatever it holds is shown as text, never as markup or links that run.
- A message is limited in length, and a player may only send so many in a short time. Over the limit, the service refuses the message with an error that says to slow down.
